As per the policy of Ministry of Culture, Government of India under the special scheme to give exposure and to provide platform to the artists belonging to North East Region to exhibit art and culture of these 8 states, which is known as ‘OCTAVE’. South Central Zone Cultural Centre, Nagpur and Shilparamam, Hyderabad is jointly organizing a Grand OCTAVE Festival between 14th February and 17th February 2019 at Shilparamam, Hyderabad. Near about 300 folk artists from North East Region are participating in this festival. It will be inaugurated on 14th February 2019 at 6.30 PM.
The South central Zone Cultural Centre, Nagpur is one amongst the total 7 Zonal Cultural Centers of India established in the year 1986 and working under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. Hon’ble Governor of Maharashtra is the Chairman of South Central Zone Cultural Centre, Nagpur and Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka are the member states of this centre. The main purpose of establishing this centre is to conserve, expand the art and culture of member states and also to retain identity of dying folk art and culture by giving exposure before the people particularly young generation.
The Folk artists from Manipur (Dhol, Cholam, Pungcholam, Lai Haorba), Assam (RangilaBihoo, Bhortal, Bardolishikhal), Tripura (Hojgiri,SangraiMong), Nagaland (Khupilili, Roina), Meghalaya (Honko, ka Shad Mastib), Arunachal Pradesh (Behadru, Rikhampada), Mizoram (cheraoo, Khullam) and Sikkim ( Tamang sellon, Yak) will perform in above OCTAVE festival.
During this 4 days festival exhibition of art, artisans from North East Region will displays their artistic and exclusive work like textile, Naga Shawls, Bamboo work, Dry flowers, Cane Bamboo etc for sale. The visitors can also enjoy the food of North East in this festival between 2.00 PM to 9.00 PM during the festival. Cultural events would be started from 6.30 PM on the platform of Night Bazaar of Shilparamam. On behalf of South Central Zone Cultural Centre, Nagpur and Shilparamam, Hyderabad all are requested to visit the Shilparamam during ‘OCTAVE Festival’ to witness the performances of the participating artists coming from North East to boost up their confidence and may this event successful. Entry in the venue is free.
