In the evening of 20-4-2019 at about 4pm ,there was a huge onset of heavy rain followed by strong winds which resulted in falling of huge trees of neem, tamarind, babul,cassia, gulmohar ,peltophorum around 50-60 in number have been uprooted and at places huge branches have fallen off causing extensive damage to the power lines and visitor pathways etc.
Immediate measures were taken to evacuate the visitors duly engaging all the battery vehicles, safari buses and all vehicles of zoo. The Curator, Deputy Curator, Asst. Curators, and entire zoo staff have taken part in evacuating all the visitors safely outside the zoo and Addl. PCCF wildlife Munindra personally monitored the visitor evacuation process. The parking area is also extensively damaged. It is with great regret we inform that in the resultant aftermath of the strong winds, a huge branch broke from the tree and fallen off resulting in the death of a Smt. Nikath Sultana, w/o. Iqbal Ahmed, aged 60 years, R/o.puppalaguda, Manikonda.The victim was sitting under a huge tree when the mishap occurred.
The matter has been brought to the higher authorities and the Govt has announced an ex-gratia of Rs.5 lakhs to the family of the deceased. Few injured visitors were also given first aid. In view of the large scale uproot of trees and falling of broken branches, restricted facilities particularly in the parking, battery vehicles safari and toy train will be made available to the visitors on Sunday. I.e.21-4-2019 All the visitors and the citizens are requested to cooperate with the zoo management.
