New Delhi: In a tragic Incident Four children drowned in Yamuna and the western Yamuna link canal, immerse Ganesha at three places in the capital on Sunday. Shastri Park in the river, another boy was washed in the link canal in Bawana. Until late in the evening none of the body could be detected as strong currents in the water due to monsoon.
The panic gripped the locals and family members of the boys who had been drowned and the sites were surrounded late on Sunday. Fire officials said that the first call was done at 2.30 pm by Busana, after which a police team and two fires tender reached the spot. Only 15 minutes after the rescue operation began, two boys, 12 and 20 years of age were removed from the canal. They were taken to a nearby private hospital, where they were treated and discharged after that.
That, despite repeated attempts, the third boy of the age of 13 was not found. Police said that four victims were part of those groups who went to immerse Ganesh idols in the water. The second incident took place from Shastri Park around 3.30 pm. A senior fire officer said, “We have received a call that a boy was drowned in the morning around 3.25 am, after which we reached the scene. The rescue operation lasted till late evening, but the boy could not be found, adding that a team will be sent once again in the morning. The boy went to Shastri Park River to immerse Ganesh idol along with his family.
