Uttar Pradesh: On Monday, the administration registered an FIR against the 1,000 BHU students at the Lanka police station for the fierce demonstration against the government and police exaggerate for carry out lathicharge on the women students of Banaras Hindu University (BHU). Meanwhile, the station officer of the Police Station (SO) Rajiv Singh, the Circle Officer (CO) Belapur Nivesh Katiyar and three additional city magistrate Manoj Kumar Singh, Sushil Kumar Gaund and Jagdalma Prasad Singh were removed from the execution of the charges.
The Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had sought a report from Varanasi’s Divisional Commissioner Nitin Gokarn on this issue, after which he was removed for 24 hours. Meanwhile, Chief Secretary Rajiv Kumar also instructed Gokarn and ADG (Varanasi zone) Vishwajit Mahapatra to present a joint report. The protests against the BHU administration accused a sacrificial victim student of being embarrassed because the police injured many female students by organizing lathi-charge in the campus. That, at least four girls reported to be received Head injuries, which have occurred in the clashes.
The conduct of mass condemnation and criticism by people across the country forced the government to investigate this matter. The incident took place on Thursday evening when an art faculty, student was allegedly harassed by three people on a motorcycle inside the premises, when she was returning to her hostel. The student alleged that instead of raising the issue, her warden asked why she was returning so late this incident resisted the lack of security of students and alleged “suffering embarrassed”.
The BHU Vice Chancellor G. C. Tripathi alleged that outsiders were involved in inciting the situation, the students said that they had been denied the meeting with Tripathi, after which they were sitting on the Dharna. Police attacked the female students outside the Triveni Hostel Gate, after which police personnel go into the boy’s hostel and beat them up.
After the violence erupts, which followed the lathicharge, police used tablet guns and rubber bullets to control the situation in the university campus. Circle Officer, Sadar, Nivesh Katiyar admitted that the police used the force and fired rubber bullets to spread the students. The tension started at around 10.30 AM when a group of students protested outside the residence of VC. He claimed that as soon as the students started pelting stones, the policemen deployed outside the V-C residence forced them to leave.
The Congress leader Raj Babbar and PL Punia took custody of the party workers yesterday when they tried to travel to BHU. Later, he was released, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi criticized the BJP on the alleged lathi-charge of women students, as BHU issued a statement saying that one day before the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, students’ Dharn ‘was “politically motivated” to defame the image of the University.
About 1,500 police personnel, including the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) team, have been deployed to maintain law and order on the premises.
