Chennai: The by-election of the RK Nagar assembly constituency was canceled in the month of April, due to allegations of large scale use of funds, the Chief Election Commissioner, A.K. Jyoti said in New Delhi on Thursday that the Election will be held by the end of this year.
The Election Commission canceled the by-election, scheduled on April 12, after which officials of the Income Tax Department and the Flying Squad concluded that large scale use of money power spoiled the atmosphere in the constituency.
The legal position is that according to an order by the court, by-elections to R.K. Nagar seat will be held by 31st December, this year. Jyoti told the reporters, while announcing the dates for the Himachal Pradesh assembly elections.
Chief Election Commissioner Jyoti’s statement place at rest speculates about the election, after Chief Minister Jayalalitha’s death, had imposed a special section in the law to adjourn the by-election in the constituency by citing “extraordinary status” in the state.
The TTV-led coalition government is struggling hard for rocks on the boat of the government. Already, President P. Dhanpal has disqualified 18 MLAs for supporting Dhinakaran and this matter is pending before the Madras High Court.
Canceling of the Bypoll to R.K Nagar, the IT department also reportedly recovered the documents two days later, which said that the AIADMK members would be distributed Rs. 89 crore in the constituency. The document was allegedly the top brass names of the government.
