Nagpur: The Indian opening batsman Rohit Sharma scored 125 runs to beat Australia by seven wickets in the fifth and final ODI match at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium on Sunday. It was Rohit’s 14th ODI hundred. The victory also ensured that the Virat Kohli’s team won the ODI series 4-1. The Indian will now topple the South Africa to occupy the No.1 spot in the ICC ODI rankings.
The Indian openers added 124 runs for the first wicket to prepare a platform for Team India’s victory. Rohit Sharma scored 125 runs in 109 balls while his opening partner Ajinkya Rahane contributed 61 runs in 74 balls.
The Australian opener David Warner and Aaron Finch shared 66-run partnership for the first wicket. Warner made 53 off 62 balls. Travis Head (42) and Marcus Stonis (46) also contributed to batting in the latter half of the innings, because the visitors scored a challenging score of 242/9 in their entire quota of 50 over’s.
In reply, openers Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma started the innings. Rohit asked to open his account while chasing 14 balls, but in the latter part of the innings he punished Australian bowlers in all parts of the ground.
The Nathan Coulter-Nile finally gave get through for Australia, when he had Rahane LBW for 61 runs. The Leg spinner Adam Zampa also took two wickets. The Zampa got rid of Rohit Sharma and Captain Virat Kohli, but Team India was too late for any kind of return because Team India had won a spectacular win over their opponents.
