Hyderabad: The Tribal Welfare Residential Student Clinches silver medal in international championship. That, from a small remote tribal hamlet to Singapore, a 13-year-old Teja Bai came a long way in the world of sports. I am so excited and I don’t have words to express my feelings, said Teja Bai Vislath, after the triumph in international Pencak Silat Championship 2017, held in Singapore, in under -14 category. Honestly, I still can’t believe that I represented India and bagged a silver medal in the international championship, Thanks to the government of Telangana and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for his vision for the liberation of the tribal children from all forms of poverty and educational backwardness. Teja Bai, a student of tribal welfare residential school Kalwakurthy, Nagarkurnool district, hails from a poor Lambada community and her parents eke out a living as farm labourers.
The Dr. RS Praveen kumar, Secretary, TTWREIS, showered praise on Teja Bai for making the Indian nation and the state of Telangana proud. “We have been making earnest efforts in creating an ecosystem where children can showcase their inherent potential in academics, sports, martial arts and mountaineering. We are planning to start gymnasiums and provide robust sports facilities in all our social and tribal welfare schools with an eye on Olympic medals”, exhorts, secretary.
The Dr. Kumar thanked the Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and the Minister for Tribal welfare A. Chandulal for their generous support to the TTWREIS under the KG-PG Mission.
