New Delhi: In the Indira Gandhi International Airport on New Year’s Eve, over 350 flights flying into and out of Delhi was delayed, diverted or cancelled as the reason “worst” fog of the season is reducing 50 meters visibility at the Airport.
More than 270 flights were delayed, 35 flights canceled and around 50 flights diverted, the officials said that there was no flight could take off from the airport between 7.30am and 11.05am for approximately four hours. That Take off from IGI Airport requires a minimum of 125 meters visibility range.
However, as the Delhi airport is the advanced technology for low visibility landing, which is called the CAT IIIB System, the aircraft qualified to land 25-50 meters visibility may arrive. Conversely, there were about 50 deviations in the nearby airports, many Pilots deployed by the airlines were not trained in CAT IIIAB equipment landing system, the source said.
The RK Jenamani, Director of the Indian Meteorological Department of the Delhi and the IGI airport said that the “Runway visibility from 5.30 AM is between 50-75 meters. This year we have experienced the worst fog.” An official of the weather department described this as “worst” fog of the season.
