Hyderabad: The ESSO-Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (ESSO-INCOIS) , Hyderabad celebrated its 19th Foundation Day anniversary today (3rd February) with the Foundation Day Lecture delivered by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, University of Hyderabad, Prof. Appa Rao Podile on the theme ” Metagenomics of Oceans and Earth in the Big Data Era” and a two-day Open House Programme (2nd and 3rd February). In his lecture, Prof. Appa Rao detailed the development of genomics and the sheer amount of data unveiled at various milestones reached in the field. He also touched on the vast scale of marine genomics, the benefits of these studies to society, in terms of medicine etc. and the future potential of metagenomics as a whole.
That, Over 720 students and faculty participated in the Open House programme which included a tour and audio-visual aided detailed interactions with scientists about different types of ocean information services and different technologies used.
